Lie, cheat, steal, plunder, pillage and murder with impunity. The rest of us will settle for this safer way of causing chaos: manually save your game, then run wild. Some people, though - to quote Michael Caine - just want to watch the world burn. And if that's not enough of a reason to disarm the world's nuclear weapons, we don't know what is.įor some people, this is basic playing stratagem. In fact, the clever little critters don't just hide in bins, they use them to protect themselves from gunfire. If you fancy a scare, you might even find one hiding in a bin. But Fallout 4's mutated cockroaches - or Radroaches - aren't just tough, they're smart and resourceful, too. They reckon cockroaches can survive just about anything, even a nuclear meltdown.
It's also beautiful, eerie and utterly captivating: the closest we'll ever get to setting foot on nuclear ground zero.Ĥ. But seeing the Glowing Sea is something unearthly: it's a hideous, twisted, broken landscape - the site of one of the many nuclear bombs that struck in Fallout 4 - riddled with radiation and radscorpions, it's harsh, unforgiving and will likely kill you. None of us are likely to see what a post-nuclear world would look like, but we can at least put ourselves in the ruins left in and around Boston. But it's worth hammering home anyway: go to the Glowing Sea. In a world where you're almost always on the back foot, being able to level the playing field - literally - is a satisfaction nobody should deprive themself of.įind a raider encampment, sneak up to a vantage point above it without being seen and lob a Fat Man shot into the middle of it. With the Fat Man, Fallout 4's portable mini-nuke launcher, that would be a crime. The problem is this often means you put off using the better weapons indefinitely - or just forget about them. There's a tendency in many games for players to hold off on using their more powerful weapons - to stick to the tried-and-true shooters and thwacking-sticks in order to save precious, powerful ammo for the big guns.
This goes for all weapons, really, but the Fat Man especially.
